Leisure, Gym & Retail Cleaning
Leisure & retail · Gyms, studios, shops · Sheffield

The changing room is where members decide whether to renew.

Gyms, leisure centres, fitness studios, swimming pools, shops and retail units across Sheffield and Yorkshire. Changing rooms, showers and wet areas are the hardest rooms in commercial cleaning to keep right and the ones every member judges the whole building by — so they are where the specification starts.

What a leisure or retail manager actually deals with

Nobody cancels a membership over the reception desk.

They cancel over a shower cubicle, a hair-covered changing room floor or a toilet at 6pm. Three things in how we work exist for buildings judged by their wettest rooms.

Wet areas

Changing rooms and showers on their own schedule

Changing rooms, showers, toilets and poolside are on a higher frequency than the rest of the building — often several times a day on daytime contracts — with products chosen for tiled, wet, high-traffic rooms and colour-coded equipment that never leaves them.

Through the day

Presence, not just a morning visit

A gym is busiest at 7am and 6pm, and a shop is judged all day. Daytime presence keeps washrooms and floors right between the peaks, and a supervisor checks in person rather than waiting for a complaint on social media.

Attendance

Seven-day cover, and hours you can see

Leisure and retail open seven days. Cleaners are our employees on a seven-day rota, absence is covered by relief cleaners we employ for that purpose, and every visit is checked in and out with GPS-verified timestamps.

What the clean includes

The specification, written for a building judged by its members.

This is the shape most gyms and leisure venues settle on; retail units drop the wet areas and add the shop floor. Yours is written at the site visit.

Every visit

Wet areas, floors and front of house

  • Changing rooms — benches, lockers, floors, mirrors, hairdryer stations
  • Showers, cubicles and drains cleaned and descaled to schedule
  • Toilets cleaned, sanitised and restocked — several times daily on daytime contracts
  • Gym floor and studios — equipment wiped down (touch points, not maintenance), floors vacuumed or mopped
  • Reception, entrance and glass presented before opening
  • Shop floors, fitting rooms and counters
  • Touch points — handles, turnstiles, rails, water fountains, card readers
  • Bins emptied, recycling separated
Weekly or fortnightly

The reset

  • Internal glass, mirrors and partitions
  • Skirting, ledges, sills and lockers detailed
  • Studio floors machine-cleaned, mats wiped and stacked
  • Shower fittings and tiles descaled, grout attended to
  • Staff areas, offices and stock rooms
Periodic and on demand

Scheduled or called off

  • Deep clean of changing rooms and wet areas
  • Poolside and pool-hall surfaces (not pool water treatment)
  • Hard floor machine cleaning, stripping and sealing
  • Carpet and upholstery extraction
  • High level — fittings, ducting, ledges above reach
  • External windows, signage and entrance canopies

When the cleaning happens

Before the doors, between the peaks, and after the last class.

A 24-hour gym and a high-street shop keep very different hours. These are the patterns, and most leisure venues combine two.

Early morning

Before opening — wet areas, floors and reception presented for the first member or customer.

Before opening

Daytime presence

A cleaner on site through the day — washrooms and changing rooms kept right between the morning and evening peaks. The pattern most gyms settle on.

Part-day or full-day

After close

The full reset once the last class or the last customer has gone — the most common pattern for retail and studios.

After the last customer

24-hour sites

For gyms that never close, cleaned in the quietest window and scheduled around the class timetable.

Agreed around the timetable

Access, alarm codes and keyholding are arranged during mobilisation and held under our procedures.

Premises we clean for

A boutique studio and a council leisure centre are different contracts.

Leisure and retail is a wide category. These are the premises it usually means.

01

Gyms and fitness clubs

Changing rooms, showers and a floor that is busy at 7am and 6pm. Daytime presence and wet areas on their own frequency.

02

Leisure centres and pools

Poolside, changing villages and sports halls, often under a public sector contract. Public sector cleaning →

03

Studios — yoga, pilates, spin, dance

Floors that people lie on. Machine-cleaned floors, mats wiped, mirrors spotless, and a fragrance-free product choice.

04

Shops and retail units

Shop floor, fitting rooms, counters and glass cleaned before opening so the first customer sees the store the way the visual merchandiser meant it.

05

Showrooms

Gloss floors, glass and display areas. Car showroom cleaning →

Leisure and retail is one of twelve sectors. See all twelve or go back to commercial cleaning as a whole.

One supplier, not four

Consumables, waste and windows should not be three more suppliers.

Buildings rarely need only cleaning. Two parts of the business exist so that the rest does not become four more contracts, four more invoices and four more people to chase.

NowThen Services

Consumables, waste and the outside of the building

Managed on the same schedule as the clean and billed on the same invoice, so usage is tracked against what the building actually gets through rather than a standing order that arrives whether you need it or not.

  • Washroom supplies
  • Sanitary units
  • Waste & recycling
  • Confidential waste
  • External windows
  • Signage cleaning
NowThen People™

Staff, when the building needs more than cleaners

The same recruitment, vetting and HR that puts our cleaning teams in place, used to staff the other roles a site runs on — employed by us, covered by us when someone is off.

  • Reception & front of house
  • Caretaking
  • Kitchen & catering
  • Security

None of it is compulsory. Plenty of contracts are cleaning and nothing else — but if you are currently managing four suppliers for one building, raise it at the site visit.

From enquiry to first clean

Four steps, and a price that comes from the building rather than a rate card.

Anyone who quotes without seeing the site is guessing at your hours. This is what happens instead.

1

Site visit

We walk the building with you — the areas, the hours you need covered, the standard you are working to, and the things the last contractor kept getting wrong.

2

Written proposal

A specification and a price, with the tasks and frequencies set out plainly. Insurance certificates and compliance documents come with it, not on request later.

3

Mobilisation

Team assigned and inducted on site, access and alarms arranged, RAMS written for the building, consumables and equipment set up. A start date, not a vague fortnight.

4

Supervision

Mobile supervisors audit against the specification, your named contact stays the same, and the schedule flexes as the building changes.

Five counties · 25 towns and cities

Sheffield first, and staffed locally everywhere else.

We are registered and based in Sheffield and most of our contracts are here. Further afield, a contract is staffed with a team recruited near the building and supervised on a regional route — distance is a logistics question, not an obstacle.

Before you enquire

The questions gym and retail managers ask.

Q.01How often are changing rooms and showers cleaned?

On their own frequency, higher than the rest of the building — several times a day on a daytime contract, with a full clean and descale to schedule. It is the part of the specification we write first, because it is the part members judge.

Q.02Do you clean gym equipment?

Touch points, frames, screens and benches are wiped down as part of the clean. Maintenance, lubrication and anything mechanical stays with your equipment supplier. Where you have a wipe-down policy for members, we work alongside it rather than instead of it.

Q.03Can we have someone on site during the day?

Yes — daytime presence is the pattern most gyms settle on, so washrooms and changing rooms are kept right between the peaks rather than only at either end of the day.

Q.04Do you cover weekends and bank holidays?

Yes. Cleaners are our employees on a seven-day rota, absence is covered by relief cleaners we employ for that purpose, and the office is reachable seven days a week.

Q.05We are a shop, not a gym. Does the same apply?

The same team, supervision and verification, with a specification written for a shop floor — before opening, fitting rooms and counters, glass and entrance, and periodic floor work. Wet areas simply drop out of the schedule.

Q.06What about smells and products in a studio?

Fragrance-free and residue-free options are specified where people are on the floor, and COSHH data sheets are supplied for everything we bring in. If your studio has a product policy, the specification is written to it.

Q.07How is it priced?

From a site visit, against a written specification with the hours stated. A studio cleaned six evenings a week and a leisure centre with daytime cover are not the same number. Cleaners check in and out with GPS-verified timestamps, so the hours invoiced are the hours worked.

Q.08Which areas do you cover?

Sheffield first, then Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Greater Manchester, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire — 25 towns and cities. See the full list →
